Assessment
A tax to pay for repairs and improvements in the neighborhood
Some counties charge home owners an assessment tax for fixing the sewer, street lighting and sidewalks. In many cases, the assessment tax only applies to properties on certain streets or areas within a county. Condominium owners also pay a special assessment for major improvements like replacing an elevator, which is calculated as part of their Home Owners’ Association dues.
